HALO - CONCEPT ART
Halo is the journey of a K-9 unit fire department dog that struggles to reconcile with her loss of hearing after a traumatic rescue. I was tasked with creating proof of concept for this children’s book pitch. While the story is illustrated in colored pencils and an overall cartoonish style, it was important to the authors and myself that the emotional gravity of these events was uninhibited by the child-friendly aesthetic.
The three illustration depict key moments from the narrative. The top left image is our titular Aussie Shepherd, gravely wounded, yet triumphant in her rescue of the pup from the burning building. The bottom left is a scene of Halo in turmoil, struggling with her obscured sense of audition. The top right illustration shows Halo in the midst of melancholic reflection on her recent life altering events.
